Parliament Watch

This project aims to increase public scrutiny of People's Majlis through increased and effective monitoring of the legislative process as well as routine parliamentary procedures.

Transparency Maldives (TM) in partnership with the Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN) are conducting a joint project called Parliament Watch. The programme aims to increase public scrutiny of People’s Majlis through increased and effective monitoring of the legislative process as well as routine parliamentary procedures. The project focuses on lobbying for specific changes in bills proposed to the parliament while also collecting and disseminating information on the progress of parliament’s work. Given this is a collaborative project, TM works on legislation related to governance including the Decentralisation Bill, Local Council Elections Bill, Access to Information Bill and Political Party Bill. TM has also provided significant input into several other proposed bills including the Broadcasting Bill, Freedom of Press Bill, NGO Bill and ‘Geveshi Aniyaa Bill’ (Domestic Violence Bill).
