Daily Lives and Corruption: Public Opinion in the Maldives report looks into the experiences and perceptions of corruption of the Maldivian people. 1,001 persons were suveyed in April 2011 to gather data for the report.
The main findings of the report are:
90% of people say that corruption has increased or stayed the same in the last three years;
Only 6% of people have paid a bribe in the last 12 months;
Most number of bribes were paid for customs services;
The Parliament is seen to be the most corrupt institution, followed closely by the political parties and the judiciary;
54% respondents say that the government is the institution that can fight corruption most effectively; and
90% of Maldivians feel that ordinary citizens can make a difference in the fight against corruption.
